John joined NZIER in March 2004. Prior to joining NZIER John was an external policy officer in the Trade Negotiations Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

John has diverse interests including network and regulatory economics, public economics, international economics and econometrics. He is also a member of the Quarterly Predictions team at NZIER.

John’s prior research experience, within and outside University, includes:

• Evaluating the impact of non-agricultural market access liberalisation.
• Assessing the breadth of economic effects from population ageing.
• Examining the existence of a long-run equilibrium for investment in electricity generation.
