Recent Experience

  • Gail has had extensive experience in providing research services using both electronic and paper-based resources, including the internet. She has provided research services to commercial lawyers, particularly in the areas of investment banking, resource management, trade practices, intellectual property and company law, as well as New Zealand based articles, texts and information to academics, the Judiciary and government agencies.
  • As the Information Specialist for NZIER, she is asked to search extensively across many subjects. She has access to a wide range of information resources covering both New Zealand and overseas materials.

Background

  • Gail joined NZIER as their Information Specialist/Library Manager in 2007. Positions she held before commencing with NZIER include: Judicial Libraries Manager at the NZ Ministry of Justice, Researcher for Te Runanga o Te Whanau, Manager of Bibliographic Services at the National Library of NZ, Research & Library Services Manager at Bell Gully, Barristers & Solicitors, Auckland. She holds a Master of Arts Honours degree in Anthropology/Maori Studies from the University of Auckland, and a postgraduate Diploma of Library and Information Studies from Victoria University of Wellington. 

  • In 2002 Gail taught the postgraduate law librarianship course at Victoria University of Wellington. She has given papers at national and international conferences on topics such as - cost recovery in private law firm libraries, using international and UN documents for business research, and advice to the Regulations Review Select Committee on how to improve accessibility to deemed legislation, which was adopted.
